Punk Rock Music

The Mainstreaming of Punk-Rock Music

The mainstreaming of punk-rock music is an issue that should be recognized by those who love it and by those who do not care that much for it. The “mainstreaming” of punk-rock to many is when true punk-rock bands sell themselves to larger corporations and more popular record companies just to make a few extra dollars. To most it is not worth it to sell all of your true fans and all of your hard work to have your name recognized on television. Those artists who choose to do so are considered sell outs and considerably should no longer be respected as a band or as a role model. Many fans have come to an understanding with the band through their lyrics and their lifestyle. On the other hand, bands may be doing these acts to better their lives as performers who depend on concerts and C.D. sales to pay their bills and to make a living. When most people think of punk-rock music, they automatically think of kids with mohawks who do not fit in with the rest of the crowd. Punk-rock is not only a type of music, but it is also a lifestyle and a brotherhood to the majority of punk rockers. Punk-rock originated in the late seventies with a few breakthrough bands such as the Sex Pistols and the Ramones. Although it did not catch on right away

Punk Rock
Often when people think of punk music they still think of the eighties “Down with government, beat the heck out of your neighbor, get wasted” stereotype. Punk is a term applied to a child or teenager who acts in an antisocial way. Some think that punk music is a form of rebellion, and that it is turned against all other musical forms and influences. Webster’s Universal Dictionary defines a punk as 1. (slang) a. someone worthless or unimportant. b. a young ruffian; hoodlum. c. an inexperienced youth d. a young male partner of a homosexual. 3. a style or movement characterized by the adoption of aggressively unconventional and often bizarre or shocking clothing, hairstyles, etc., and the defiance of social norms usually associated with punk rock musicians and fans.5. (informal) poor in quality or condition. It says that punk rock is rock music marked by loud, insistent music and aggressive, often abusive or violent lyrics. I don’t agree with all of these, so called, “definitions.” That is a very bad interpretation of what punk and what punk rock is. People I know that are considered punks by their peers are not worthless, unimportant, hoodlums, or a partner of a homosexual. And punk rock that I listen to is not insistent, or abusive

Rock Music Over 20th Century
Rock is a topic not often touched on because of its complexity and its evasion by conservative adults. Often viewed by them as “a bunch of noise”, Rock music is very complex. In fact “It's stylistic scope is too broad to be encompassed by any single definition” (Groliers Encyclopaedia). The nearest definition suggests a kind of music that represents and speaks for the teenage society. This music is characterised by using a heavy beat. In this musicology, I intend to describe the technical aspects that make Rock Music what it is. I'm also going to divide Rock music into four sections: Rock of the 50's, of the 60's, of the 70's and of the 80's. Within these sections I'm going to discuss several sub-topics such as famous composers and groups, and characteristics of the music.Rock music shares many technical aspects. Most rock music is based on the same harmonies as Western music, especially the tonic, subdominant, and dominant chords. The series of chords known as the 12-bar blues is based on these three chords and has figured prominently in certain styles, especially Rock & Roll, Soul Music, and Southern Rock. Other common harmonic devices include the use of a drone, and the parallel movement of chords, originating from a tech
